Iron(III) oxide - Fe2O3 - Binary Ionic Compound

This compound has multiple uses. As shown in the image, Iron(III) oxide is most commonly used in pigments and dyes, primarily reds and browns. The compound is also works for magnetic storage for audio and video data. It's texture also allows it to be especially useful for polishing jewelry, silverware, and lenses.

  1. Thanks for the info! On a side note, I know that you can combine iron oxide with aluminum shavings to creating a mixture called thermite. It burns very hot and can be useful in cutting things when nothing else is available.
